BRENTFORD LEADING BY EXAMPLE

Brentford has announced that they will be keeping their current home strip for the 2022/23 season to save fans money and try to make Brentford football club more sustainable going into the future.

In today’s game it’s the normal practice for every club to realise a new Home, Away and third kit every season, however, Brentford has decided to lead the way and change the way they operate.

For the 2022/23 season, Brentford will only realise a new Away and third strip keeping their current home kit for an additional season.

The reason Brentford has decided to reuse the £49 home shirt for the following season is to save supporters money and to do their bit in protecting the environment.

Brentford’s chief executive Jon Varney said: “We believe in football being affordable for our fans and are aware of the need for the game to become more focussed on sustainability.”

He told the club’s website “Whilst it is not normal for practice for Premier League clubs to roll a kit over for two seasons, fans have told us that they would be in favour of the savings that a two-season shirt would provide.”"We also think this is a step in the right direction to help the environment a little. It can only be good to reduce kit cycles."

However, Varney was very clear with the understanding that it’s a small change saying: “It is only a little thing, but we believe it will help.”

Fans from all over the footballing world have been praising Brentford’s stance and I’m sure more clubs will take their lead in the future as everybody calls for football to become more sustainable in the future and make sure it’s affordable for everyone.
