LIVERPOOL TAKE OVER THE THEATRE OF DREAMS

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-5 LIVERPOOL

OLD TRAFFORD – Attendance 73,088

Sunday 24th October 2021

This fixture has always produced great games throughout the years and this meeting didn’t disappoint.

Liverpool entered this game full of confidence and very quickly the hosts who have been struggling as of late and with pressure coming down on the manager and players realised this was going to be a very tough and long afternoon.

It took just five minutes for the victors to go ahead with Mohmed Salah putting through Naby Keita who calmly slotted it passed David De Gea between the posts.

Eight minutes later saw Liverpool score their second goal.

After a defensive calamity between Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw saw the ball arrive at the feet of Trent Alexandra-Arnold who’s low driven crossed was received by an outstretching leg of Diego Jota.

Going two goals down at Old Trafford is something United fans have become accustomed to in recent times with their last game against Atlanta going the same way.

However, this game wasn’t going to follow suit with Manchester finding a way back into the game as Liverpool had other ideas when they scored their third of the game in the 38th minute.

Salah’s first goal of the afternoon came as his original shot was blocked and fell to Keita who put the ball back in the mixer and Salah beat everyone to put the ball in the back of the net.

The home fans would have been praying for the halftime whistle to stop them from seeing their arguably biggest rivals embarrassing them at home.

Klopp’s men again didn’t get the memo as five minutes into additional time Salah scored his second.

With the Red Devil’s defence showing another scrappy piece of defending and failing to clear their lines.

The ball arrived at the foot of the “Egyptian King” as called from The Reds faithful and he smashed it in the bottom right corner.

Ole would have sent his team out in the second half with the aim of seeing out the game without any more humiliation accruing.

The travels however had one final nail to put in when Salah scored his hattrick.

Becoming the first opposition player to ever score three goals at the Theatre of Dreams in the Premier league.

Mohammed Salah is clearly a man full of confidence now with his eyes clearly set of winning the title this season.

Salah said after the game: “We know what it takes to win the Premier league, we did it two years ago”.

It’s Safe to say that Klopp was over the moon with his team’s performance saying “It is a really good day – a big one. This is a little chapter in the history of the club”.

Even though he was happy with his team’s performance he was aware that a struggling Manchester team did help with the result.

He said: “We were lucky in some moments, united are not in their best moment”.

Solskjaer obviously wasn’t happy with the result of the game. He stated that: “It’s not easy to say something apart from it’s the darkest day I’ve had leading these players,”.

Ole however refused to let his players become the scape goats for this shocking display. He said: “It’s not easy to say something apart from it’s the darkest day I’ve had leading these players.”
